Viniculture is conducted commercially in 52 out of the South Tyrol's 116 communities. South Tyrol's vineyards are a colorful mosaic made up of 5,000 individual operations employing over 10,000 people with great diligence and commitment. Sixteen winery cooperatives, around forty estates and private wineries, and a large number of winegrowers and winemakers go to great expense with great success to make the best out of the capital that has been entrusted to them.

Added to these are South Tyrol's sparkling wine producers who, by using the classic méthode champenoise bottle fermentation process, turn selected grapes of three varieties Pinot Bianco, Chardonnay, and Pinot Nero into high-quality South Tyrolean sparkling wine. Eight of them have joined together to form the Association of South Tyrolean Sparkling Wine Producers.
